Why
This Site?
An
Alternative Approach!
There are
two very excellent sites for PD folks, specifically" Ask
The Doctor" by Abraham Lieberman M.D., and " Ask The
Dietician " by Kathrynne Holden M.S, R.D. The purpose of
this site is to provide another approach where people with PD
could explore other alternatives, that may enhance the quality
of their life. While some of the information will be different,
it is not meant to replace your doctor's advice, and you should
always consult with him or her prior to trying any alternative
process.
The medical
community has no cure for PD, and they will tell you this. It
was once suggested that a person got PD because of environmental
reasons. Then it was considered because of genetic factors.
Now they think it is possible that PD may be to caused by a
virus, or a physical or emotional trauma. There are a lot of
theories of there, but so far no solutions. It has been said
that if you live to be 100 everyone would have P. D. because
you lose 10 percent per decade of the cells whose loss is a
contributing factor in the cause of PD. This doesn't make too
much sense as some people are over 100 and don't have PD The
truth is, nobody knows what causes the PD
My suggestion
to anyone who has PD, listen to your doctor, get a second opinion
to verify the diagnosis, take the recommended medications suggested
to you by your doctor, and start educating yourself about your
condition and alternative suggestions to enhance quality of
your life. They won't cure, but they may help.
My first
tremor started 18 years ago, and I tried all sorts of alternative
treatments to no avail. About five years ago I was finally diagnosed
with PD after first being diagnosed with essential tremor and
lead poisoning and I was placed on Sinemet C .R. and told that
I would be on it for the rest of my life. I was also told, that
I would be constipated . Nothing was said about all the other
strange things(symptoms) that kept happening to me. I had an
old 486 computer which I played games on, and I knew nothing
else about using a computer. So I got angry at the lack of information
that I was given, and decided that the only way I was could
find out what was going on, was to get an updated computer that
was fast enough to handle voice recognition software, learn
how to use it, and seek out all information that I could find,
wherever I could find it.
I have been
blessed with a wonderful lady physician, and finally a knowledgeable
neurologist two years ago only to find out last month that he
is retiring. So now I'll shall have to go and seek out another
neurologist.
Remember,
it's your life - take responsibility for it!
My biggest
complaint with the establishment, is that there is no great
amount of communication between your personal physician and
your neurologist. It seems like a personal physician assumes
that the neurologist told you want to do, and the neurologist
assumes that your personal physician is going to tell you. The
net result often times, is nobody tells you anything, so you
have to get out there is search for yourself. Demand that these
people tell you what's going on, after all it's your life.
The
old adage that "The Dr. sits on the _self hand of God":
is not sufficient anymore. Demand explanations and second opinions,
Don't take " No " for an answer. It's your Life.
At the present
time, I have many medical and alternative information sites
coming in every day with information. If I find something that
looks interesting and plausible, I will search for a second
opinion, and with that information decide to investigate the
new information or not If I decide to investigate, I start with
a very low dose of the supplement, and listen to my body. If
I get an adverse reaction I back off. But I always start small
and work up.
You see,
in my low 80's, I cannot afford to wait for a double blind study
of say 5000 people over a 10 year period, for the medical professionals
to come up with a cure.
